Okay. So, I've been trying to type up this new post, and though I've tried to write about two different things so far, my mind keeps coming to this.
Family history is basically UH-MAY-ZINNNG! I KNOW!! I wrote about this here, too. But I just can't help myself!
Last week at church, a new class started. It's a genealogy class. Rick and I decided to join it because we've both been feeling a weird urgency to find our ancestors.
If you've never created a free account at FamilySearch, you need to stop, go do that, then come back and finish reading. Go now. Do it. Seriously.
Ok. Now that you've done that, see how far back your genealogy has been recorded. Today we found out that Rick is related to Charlemagne the Great, among others, and I'm related to lots of Kings of Scotland and Denmark, and people with awesome nicknames like "Gold Tooth", "Snake Eyes", "The Wise", "The Kind", "Sea King" and more! And we found out that we both have lines that go all the way back to Adam and Eve. Incidentally, when you get back that far, our First Parents' names are written in Portuguese. They proclaim "Adao, O Primeiro Homem" and "Eva, A Primeira Mulher". Weird.
It's truly fascinating. Even if you think that Family History is snoozeville, you've GOT to see where your lines take you.
Maybe you're related to Benjamin Franklin. Or Mary, Queen of Scots. Or Rognvald IV "The Destroyer" Prince of Scotland. Who knows. Years from now when your progeny is researching for you, what will they find?
What will mine find about Wendy Lynette "The Awesome" Stutznegger Jepson? Only time will tell.
