People. It’s almost OCTOBER!!! And you know what that means… CHRISTMAS IS
if you are), but I do love finding crazy deals and then finding even crazier
coupons and promo codes to make things even better priced. So that’s one thing I love.
But even more than I love a sweet deal, I love this: several years ago we decided to take ourselves out of both sides of our families’ gift rotations. We wanted to use that money for a gift to a non-profit organization, and we invited our extended family members to join us.
Sometimes we chose the organization, sometimes other members of the family did. Over the years, we’ve purchased mosquito nets, stoves, animals, musical instruments, and more animals.
All the organizations we’ve donated to so far, have been amazing. And this year’s will be too. I thought I had a pretty good idea about all the humanitarian programs the church has, but I was so wrong! In addition to the perpetual education fund, counselling, adoption services, addiction recovery, and providing disaster relief, the church offers:
- courses in neonatal resuscitation— more than 80,000 people trained
so far, who then train others
- immunization programs— over 60,000 Church members in 32 countries
have helped in measles vaccinations
- mobility program— has given out over 300,000 wheelchairs and
provides prosthetic limbs too!
- clean water programs— millions of people worldwide have access to clean
- vision care program— has helped over 180,000 people worldwide
- food production- - teaches sustainable agricultural techniques to
families so they can be self-reliant
And there are a ton more that aren’t listed here. All of these programs are available to those in need, regardless of race and religion. That’s pretty incredible. And the money goes directly to the programs. No higher-up gets a cut for his/her salary. That’s also pretty amazing.
This Christmas, we’ll be giving to at least one of these programs. You can too, if you feel so inclined. Because even though you’ll feel pretty awesome about finding sweet deals and beating that lady to the last sandwich maker, you’ll feel even better being part of the change that can alter a person’s life.
“Prayers are answered most of the time by God using other people. I pray He’ll use us. I pray we’ll be the answer to people’s prayers.”
