A couple years ago while perusing through the odds and ends at a local thrift store, I found this wood plaque:
We’re counselled to create a “house of order” and I gotta say that this has been a challenge for us during these past couple weeks. Moving is a pain, whether it’s across the world or across the street, whether you’re upsizing or downsizing. It always seems, as you’re making the transition from one house to the other, that the one thing you need is always at the other place. The cereal is here, the milk is there. The iron is here, the ironing board is there. You see what I mean. Order is simply not a part of the picture.
Like Rick said, we accepted a challenge from our Home Teachers to read the Book of Mormon every night as a family. And in the move we misplaced our scriptures. But the lovely thing about living in 2014 is that through technology, we have all sorts of ways to access a billion different things, including the whole Gospel Library. We’ve been able to get online through Olivia’s kindle, my phone, and the desktop computer to keep up with our goal. Being able to do this has helped us maintain some feeling of organization—at least that part of the day is predictable and relaxing—and it has helped us keep a feeling of calm and peace that is starting to make this new house feel like our new home.
Someone asked recently what it means to have Christ at the center of the home. I think that this little plaque sums it up quite well. If we can remember that Christ is always near, and we can have Him always in our heart, trying to do what He would have us do, then our lives will be a reflection of His, and He will be the hub of our wheel.
Watching o'er you day and night,
And delights to own and bless you,
If you strive to do what's right.
He will bless you, He will bless you,
If you put your trust in him.
2. Dearest children, holy angels
Watch your actions night and day,
And they keep a faithful record
Of the good and bad you say.
Cherish virtue! Cherish virtue!
God will bless the pure in heart.
3. Children, God delights to teach you
By his Holy Spirit's voice.
Quickly heed its holy promptings.
Day by day you'll then rejoice.
Oh, prove faithful, Oh, prove faithful
To your God and Zion's cause.
